Notes

Eliza Godber (1814 - 1890), maiden surname Robinson, married 1854 John Godber (1815 - 1889) who was a bailiff or agent at Lings colliery. John and Eliza had no children and from her will you will see she left bequests to her living siblings,

Rosamond Mather (1811 - 1903), who married 1833 Samuel Mather (1809 - 18750, waterwoks engineer

Thomas Robinson (1808 - 1909), who married 1850 Ann Burton daughter of farmer Benjamin Burton

Joseph Robinson (1827 - 1898), grocer, who married 1851 Mary Evans youngest daughter of Henry Evans of Greenhill Lane.

and her nephews and nieces.

This will is especially interesting for family historians because it gives married surnames.

The executor, Thomas Elliott of Whittington Moor, was the husband of Eliza's niece Sarah. She was the eldest daughter of Eliza's brother Joseph. The census lists Thomas Elliott's occupation as a Chemist and Druggist.

A newspaper report mention Eliza's husband, colliery bailiff John Godber:

Derbyshire Times, Saturday 8th September 1860

Joseph Hawkins, John Bamford, and George Fletcher, all of Lings Row, were charged by John Godber, agent to John Chambers and others, of Lings Colliery, with absenting themselves from their work on the 3rd and 4th instant. Pleaded Guilty. Ordered to return to work and pay costs, 11-0d. each.
