Eating out

Overview

We had thought to list here places to eat in and around Malvern offering good English food and snacks at a sensible price, particularly for the older age group. So much for good intentions; it's obvious we should get out more!

You will find better sites to search for places to eat and obtain reviews, such as the Trip Adviser web site, where you can leave your own feedback to help others.

There are many coffee shops and tea rooms to choose from in Great Malvern. The Lyttleton Well for example is often busy but excellent for tea and cakes; alternatively you could sit on a sofa at Cafe Nero opposite.

More substantial food can be had at the Foley Arms, not far from the top of Church Street, which is now a branch of JD Weatherspoon. Alternatively you could eat at the Great Malvern Hotel in Graham Road, by the traffic lights, or more formally at the Abbey Hotel.

For shoppers there are cafes in Waitrose, and at Morrisons and Marks and Spencers on the Malvern shopping park.

For pub lunches, the Green Dragon on the Guarlford Road can be recommended, and for bar meals, the Nags Head at Link top.

Traditional food can be had wider afield at The Swann in Hanley Swan and at the White Lion in Upton upon Severn. In fact there are so many places to eat. Please do let us know if there are places you can recommend.

Changing times

Some rural pubs are finding it difficult to get enough trade to make ends meet.

For example The Plough and Harrow on the Guarlford has been a beer house and later pub for more than 100 years; some years ago it had a very successful restaurant, but the present owners, Wadworth Breweries, were seeking planning permission in 2017 for a change of use to 'residential' because they considered the business had become uneconomic.

The Dog at Baughton

Pub signSome years ago we had an extremely good meal at the Dog at Baughton which was then under new management.

Sadly a friend reported the pub being boarded up at the end of October 2010.

Details were:-

Large car park & children's play area.

Bar meals, Sunday lunches and dinners in the restaurant.

Good food at sensible prices.

Well-behaved dogs allowed in bar.

Directions: from Upton on Severn cross the A38 onto the Pershore road. You will find 'The Dog' about 2 miles further on, on the left.
