Photos of University of Bangor Reunion

In 2008 a special, well attended, reunion was held for students who graduated in the 1960s many of whom had recently retired or were about to retire. On the Saturday night there was a formal dinner accompanied by harp music and followed by a Disco, for those with the stamina. It was lovely to meet old friends, and hear about future plans for the university.

Views of the new halls of residence, demolition of the old buildings and rebuilding work

Emrys Evans and most of Plas Gwyn which were constructed in the 1960s have been demolished and are being replaced with more modern buildings. The house 'Bryn Haul' which was used for undergraduate accommodation in the 1990s has been renovated and is now a conference centre.

Visit to Penrhyn Castle

On Sunday we visited the National Trust property Penrhyn Castle before returning home; it lies on the A5 just outside Bangor.

Penrhyn Castle castle was built in the first half of the 1800s by the Pennant family who made their fortune from sugar plantations and later from slate quarries in North Wales. If you are in the area, it's well worth a visit.
