Travelling to Malvern

Air

The closest major airport is Birmingham International, which offers hire car facilities and, if the traffic is running smoothly, it is a 45 minute drive to Malvern via the M42 and M5 motorways. There can however be traffic delays, so allow plenty of time.

The one way private hire cab fare is typically about £70 but check with the driver before hiring the cab.

The Skytrain (metro) from Terminal One links the airport with Birmingham International station, which is close by, for trains to Birmingham New Street. A change may have to be made at New Street for trains to Great Malvern.

Heathrow airport offers car hire facilities and is a three hour drive to Malvern.  There is also a coach link to Reading railway station, where connection can be made to trains for Oxford and Great Malvern.

Train times and fares can be obtained from National Rail Enquiries, see link at the foot of the page.

Road

Travelling from the south, come off the M5 motorway at junction 8,  joining the M50. After two miles leave the M50 at junction 1, and follow the A38 and A4104 to Upton upon Severn. After crossing the river at Upton, turn right onto the B4211 for Malvern. Follow the road for a further 4 miles before turning left for Great Malvern.

Coming from the North,  leave the M5 motorway at junction 7 signposted Worcester South. Keep in right hand lane at the roundabout and take right hand exit. At next roundabout turn left. Go straight across next two roundabouts, crossing the River Severn. At next (Powick) roundabout turn left and follow signs for Malvern. The A449 will bring you into the outskirts of Malvern Link. Turning left at the roundabout will take you to the out of town shopping centre. Otherwise carry straight on along Worcester Road through Malvern Link to Great Malvern.

Your 'Satnav' will give you local directions.

Local maps can be viewed by going to the Streetmap website:-

Additionally, photos of streets can be viewed using Google Maps and Street View.

Road journeys can be planned by going to the AA web site,

Rail

There are two railway stations serving the Malvern area,

Great Malvern and Malvern Link

Great Malvern station is the most convenient for reaching the town centre hotels and Barnards Green.

For travel to Malvern from London normally use Paddington station and if possible a 'through' train. (On some services you may need to change at Oxford or one of the Worcester stations - Worcester Shrub Hill and Worcester Foregate.)

Alternatively you can go from Euston, changing at Birmingham, for Malvern.

For travel from the North you will probably have to change trains at Birmingham New Street.
