Businesses and services

Here is a snapshot of businesses and services, such as plumbers, which visitors and residents might find useful. We haven't included everyone, and shops are opening and closing all the time, but it should give you a good idea of what's available locally.

Recently bank branches have been closing - it's a nationwide trend. HSBC, and Lloyds still have a presence in Great Malvern, but those able will need to trudge up to the top of Church Street. There is now no bank in Barnards Green, but there is a cash machine, and some banking transactions can be made at the Post Office.

Casualties of the recession

There have been quite a few changes on the high street since the financial crisis of 2008. Some businesses have changed hands, some have moved, some like Beacon Books and Severn Office Systems have sadly ceased trading, and some have gone bust.

Change is always happenning on the high street, but it has seemed more rapid in recent years. Here are some units we have particularly noticed have gone:-

ACE Kitchens, Barnards Green

Barnards Green Off Licence, now occupied by furniture shop

Beacon Books

Bicknells garage, Pickersleigh Rd, now PJ Nicholls and Hi Q Tyres

Brooklyn garage, Malvern Link, replaced by flats

Country Meals (butchers, once good for sausages and speciality meals)

Foley Hotel, now Wetherspoon's
